What's Happening This Week
Writing for the week: 2,500 words Current workout: None until after the move is complete (info below on that!!!!) What I’m reading: God Emperor of Dune by Frank Herbert
First off, I owe you all an apology for missing last week’s journal entry. Between job hunting, preparing for the holidays, and juggling a dozen other tasks, it completely slipped my mind. Oops. But here I am now, catching you up on what’s been an incredibly busy (and surprisingly exciting) couple of weeks.
On Reading: The Wild Ride of Dune
I’m still deep into the Dune series, and wow, what a journey it’s been! I recently finished Children of Dune, which I know some folks warned me I might not enjoy. But to my pleasant surprise, I thoroughly loved it. Now I’ve moved on to God Emperor of Dune, and honestly? I’ve given up trying to predict where this series is going.
(NOTE: I am still planning a more in-depth post focused solely on this series because I have thoughts.)
This book is such a departure from where it all started that it feels like I’m reading a completely different story—and yet, I’m still hooked. It’s wild, unexpected, and unlike anything I’ve ever read. I’ll see how it ends before deciding whether to move on to Book Five or take a break. From what I’ve heard, this could be a natural stopping point, but knowing me, I might just dive straight into the next one if the ending leaves me wanting more.
On Writing: A Small Step Forward
Writing-wise, I managed to get about 2,500 words done this week—not as much as I would have liked, but every little bit counts. My attention has been pulled in so many directions lately, and while I’ve had to put writing on the back burner more often than not, I’m excited to pick up momentum again once things settle down.
On Moving: New Land, a New Home
This week has been a whirlwind, and it started with some incredible news—I secured a bit of land! It’s such a relief to have a place to go, but of course, that was only step one. Camping out under the stars sounds romantic, but it’s not exactly feasible with nine animals and winter breathing down my neck.
The hunt for a livable solution began in earnest, and I’m thrilled to say it paid off. Today, a spacious travel trailer was delivered to the land. It’s more than I could have hoped for and will be a perfect home base for however long I need it. Having this immediate future secured takes a huge weight off my shoulders.
Next up: packing. If all goes well, I’ll start the move tomorrow or Monday, depending on the weather and a few other details. It’s going to be a hectic process, but I’m ready for this new chapter.
On Opportunities: A Dream Interview
Amidst all the chaos, I’ve also been busy job hunting, and I’m excited to share some news on that front. I’ve been applying for a variety of positions, but one in particular feels like a dream opportunity—I have an interview Monday morning with a game developer for a writing position on an upcoming title.
While my writing experience is rooted in novels, video games are what inspired me to tell stories in the first place. To even be considered for this role feels surreal, and I’m over the moon about the opportunity. That said, I’m keeping my expectations realistic. It’s a competitive industry, and I don’t have direct experience in the field, but I’m honored to have made it this far. Fingers crossed!
On the Holidays: Finding Joy Amid Change
This week is Christmas, and like Thanksgiving, it’s coming with a mix of emotions. I’ll be spending the day with family, which I’m grateful for, but the lead-up has been...different. Everything about this year feels different.
There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to do the things I’ve always loved because they remind me of what and who isn’t here. But at the same time, not doing those things feels like letting someone take even more from me—a power they don’t deserve to hold. It’s a tricky balance, but I’m finding peace and joy where I can.
My hope is to have a relaxing day with family, enjoying the traditions that make the season special. After that, it’ll be full steam ahead on finishing the move and settling into this new chapter of life.
Looking Ahead
It’s been a whirlwind few weeks, but there’s a lot to be excited about: a new home, new opportunities, and a chance to close out the year on a hopeful note. I’ll keep you updated on how everything goes, and as always, I’d love to hear what’s been going on in your world.
How’s your holiday season shaping up? Any fun plans, good books, or creative projects keeping you busy? Let me know in the comments or hit me up on Bluesky—I love hearing from you!
Here’s to brighter days ahead.
I hope you have a fantastic week. Merry Christmas if you celebrate, Happy Holidays. Stay warm, and I'll hit you all up soon.
